  • How do I book a tattoo appointment?
    Best way to get in contact regarding a booking is to fill out my booking form on my website. Alternatively, you can send me an email to carly.vh@live.com.au. In the email please include the following: - Concept - Where you want to put it on your body - Rough size in cm - Reference pictures - Pictures of the area if there are any moles, scars or tattoos in the area I need to be mindful of when designing your piece. - Budget (optional)
  • Do you do touch ups, cover ups or reworks?
    Touch ups, absolutely yes. If they’re tattoos I have done that need touch ups, you will not be charged if I am notified within 3 months of our initial booking otherwise you will be charged depending on the extent of the touch up needed with the minimum charge being $200. If it’s a touch up on another artists tattoo, that is on a case by case basis and you will be charged for that. Cover ups and reworks, yes and no. I always love the challenge of doing a cover up or rework, but there may be circumstances where I feel I am unable to achieve the perfect coverup or rework for the piece and may recommend laser removal or another artist that would be better suited for the job. You need to give me full reign when designing a piece for your coverup/rework as these are already quite challenging. Obviously you can give mE a concept to work with but everything else needs to be left in my more than capable hands, I got you!
  • How much do you charge/what is your hourly rate?
    My hourly rate is $200 p/h with my day rate capping at $1400. My minimum is $200.
  • When will I see my design?
    I try and send my designs out 2 nights or the night before our appointment. Due to my insane workload, I cannot get the design done any sooner. If you need to make any minor changes that is fine, but if there are major changes/redraws you will be charged an extra fee and we may need to reschedule your appointment in order to give me enough time to redraw and to make the tattoo tip top perfect.
  • Can I change my idea?
    If you change your idea, I need at least 2 weeks notice to prepare the new design you want. If the new design doesn’t fit within the time frame you had originally booked, we will need to reschedule to a later date. If you change your idea after that, you will need to place a new deposit in order to rebook.
  • Where are you located?
    I work out of a small private studio space in Thornbury called Shinra Electric. Upon booking you will receive an automated email listing the address as well as a few little details regarding public transport, parking and house rules for the studio so everything is smooth, comfortable and easy for everybody. We do not list our address online as we do not take walk ins.
  • Is the studio accessible for people with disabilities ie: wheelchair use?
    Yup sure is! The studio is on ground level with a small step where we can easily assist you I getting you up there if need be! Please let me know prior to our appointment if you are in a wheelchair so we can plan ahead.
  • Can I bring a friend with me to my appointment?
    Due to the small space of the studio, it is advised you do not bring a friend with you unless they absolutely need to be there for example if they are your carer. This is to avoid the studio becoming noisy or crowded. Please let me know beforehand if you need to have someone there with you.
  • Do I need to pay a deposit?
    Yes! A minimum $100 deposit is required to make a booking which can be paid via my booking portal when you have chosen your appointment date and time with the link I will send you. Through the portal you can pay your deposit via PayPal or credit/debit card. If we’re doing a large scale piece over multiple dates, your deposit will be carried on to your last appointment of the tattoo/upon completion of the tattoo.
  • Can I have my deposit refunded?
    Deposits are strictly non-refundable.
  • Do you offer EFTPOS as payment at the studio?
    At Shinra, we are a CASH ONLY studio but there are ATMs located at the IGA a few doors down from the studio or a tobacconist next door to that.
  • Do you have Gift Vouchers?
    I sure do! You can choose any amount you’d like to put on there and they last 3 years from the purchase date! You can either pick them up from the studio or I can have it posted to you at an extra charge.
  • I’m Under 18, can I still get tattooed?"
    It is strictly illegal to tattoo anybody under the age of 18 so that is a big nope!
  • I need to cancel/reschedule my booking, how do I go about this?
    If you need to cancel/reschedule, please contact me via email to carly.vh@live.com.au. You will need to give me at least 36 hours notice otherwise you will forfeit your deposit and you will need to pay another deposit to reschedule. You can only reschedule twice, any more after that will require a new deposit to secure a new booking. If you need to cancel altogether your deposit is non refundable.
  • Can I get tattooed if I am pregnant, breast feeding or if I have an illness or medical condition?
    I will not tattoo you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have a medical condition such as a blood disease or heart condition or anything that could affect the healing of the tattoo or effect you physically, I will not tattoo you unless you have been given the go ahead from your doctor.
